Description

The land has been tarnished by the evil presence of the Oni, and it’s up to the Empire to take it back! With only a Palace and some money, rally your troops and fight back against this growing menace! Samurai, Ninja or Geisha, deploy them all and fight for the honor of the Empire!

Onigami is a condensed turn-based strategy game which pits the Empire - controlled by the player - against the Oni - by artificial intelligence. Whichever faction destroys the opponent’s main tower first wins. Each participant starts by spending their currency in buildings. After a few turns, most buildings will deploy an unit, which can be moved around the board to attack the opponent’s units, buildings and eventually their main tower. In addition to buildings that deploy units, there are also a few utility buildings which can help the player plan their victory. Map size can be customized at the start of the game and their layouts are randomized every time.

History

Onigami was designed and developed as the fourth semester's project of Universidade Europeia’s BSc in Games and Apps Development. However, difficulties forced it to be developed in 2 months into the 4 month time-frame that the university provided. It was co-created with an Erasmus and international students from other universities, making Onigami's development a memorable and diverse experience.

Although the semester has since concluded and the project evaluated, we have decided to continue development on Onigami as to further refine and polish the original experience, adding more content and features that weren't able to be implemented in time of the original project's release.

Features

  • Build your towers and rally the troops! It's time to fight for the Empire against the evil Oni!
  • Your unit buildings can deploy a strong Samurai, a nimble Ninja or a flexible Geisha every few turns! But beware, since the Oni have minions to match yours!
  • Think smart! With your utility buildings, farm for more resources or deploy your units across great distances!
  • Maps are randomly generated on each play, so be ready to adapt! You can even customize the size of your land right at the start!
  • Protect the Empire's palace at all cost, and don't stop until the Oni Portal has been destroyed!

About Whales And Games

Boilerplate
Whales and Games is a small indie game development collective centered on designing games about mindless fun and discovery. We develop projects mostly on our personal free-time, with our released projects mostly originating from game jams such as Ludum Dare, in which we work with different temporary and project-specific affiliates.

Our games are designed to be about mindless fun and discovery, and hopping to bring a smile to the player’s faces. We focus on creating small and easy-to-learn game loops that can easily be expanded with new content, attempting to diversify our games without never changing their main experience. We’re constantly trying new stuff and expanding our game repertoire!
