Happy New Year! Here’s to a Whale of a 2021!

Post banner for the "here's to a whale of a 2021" blog post! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! 🎆 As the holiday season comes to a close, it’s fair to say that the last year wasn’t easy. Even then we all withstood its misfortunes, pulling our best, the world kept spinning, and so did our lil’studio at Whales And Games!

First off, we wanted to thank everyone for the support that you’ve given us through the past year! Thank you for your comments, reviews, art gifts, trades, commissions, and your participation with our community! It’s these interactions that our studio is built-upon, and we treasure each and everyone one of them. 💕

As we start this new year, there’s a lot of stuff we want to announce and tell you what we’ve been up too! If we were to make a quick bullet list, it’d be something like this:

  • We’ve rebooted Bunny Splash Casino’s development, our adults-only management-simulation and visual novel game, back in November! We’ve also ditched the Bunny Copulation brand and want, even with the game’s themes, to be proud that it is a Whales And Games project!
  • We want to give a fresh coat-of-paint to the Whales And Games branding over the year! We’ve refreshed our characters and some of our presentation last year, and now, we want to bring it to our core brand as well, especially as we start hosting commercial projects.
  • We want to address our previous projects like Roboto Repairaton and Colossorama! If possible and without conflicting with Bunny Splash Casino’s development, we’d like to finally release them.
  • Global Game Jam is coming up and being online for the first time! We definitely want to get in on that game jam!
  • And much more…!

These are very exciting times for our team! However, if there’s something we’ve learned with Whales And Games is that we frequently get ahead of ourselves. As much as we’d like to get into the details of each point, we want to get what we’re working on is bright and shiny before we show it off to you!

Our 4th anniversary will be happening in just a couple of months in March! When we get there and over the course of the next few months, we’ll tell you about what we’ve got on the blender! 😉

Hold on a bit longer to your sails, alright? If not, come down to the deck at our Whales And Games Discord or follow us on Twitter! We’ve been sharing development details more casually over on those places, so if you want a few sneak peeks, feel free to join in!

If you’re looking for Bunny Splash Casino news there’s also its own Discord and Twitter! Since it’s an adult-only game, we thought it’d be better to keep them in separate, age-gated channels.

Here’s to a happy new year, and a whale of 2021! 🐳

We will award the team with the most members by the 16th November with a special Whalechan design after that team’s monster at a later date!

🎃 Trick’ord Treat! Discord has brought various spooky monsters to our door-step and you can trick-or-treat them for special Halloween items! The event only lasts until the 2nd November, but you can read all about it on the trickord-treat channel! There’s a special role for the member with the most complete collection!

🎃 Finally, you join us on the 6th November at 9:00PM for a special haunted gaming night! We will be playing all sorts of haunted spooky (yet undecided) games on gaming-ghouls channel to bring out the true spooky-gamer spirit!

With all of these activities planned, we invite you to join our Discord or following us on Twitter and come enjoy Whaloween to its best! 🐳

Results that make us bark with joy! Woofice Chair’s Ludum Dare Results!

Woofice Chair's Ludum Dare Results banner

Well, it seems that the dogs have come back to roost. (We know it’s a chicken thing, but accept the analogy, it’ll make sense)! And now, we can finally rest knowing we’ve got the Ludum Dare results for Woofice Chair! (told you it’d work). 🐶

Mock Office Chair Image before we came up with the final Woofice Chair

It’s always good to look back at and compare these, since they’re easy-to-understand metrics. They can practically show if we’ve improved or changed in certain aspects of development.

Before we getting into the ratings, we want to say that we’re humbled by the reception we got! We also got to play a ton of fun games, making it an all around fantastic period!

So let’s see how we performed with Woofice Chair! shall we?

Ludum Dare 47 Results

Ranking-wise, this is the highest we’ve got at Humour, which is fantastic! But here’s some fun statistical data, complete with our over-analysis of the situation.

At some point during a previous Ludum Dare, we made a Google Sheet to write down the results we’ve got in the past entries. It even got conditional formatting to give us better visual clues of important numbers! Gold cells represent our best at a jam yet, while red represents our worst:

Ludum Dare Rankings and Results since Petty Puny Planet

Rating-wise, this is our best Overall game with 4.15 (up from Wizsnooks’ 4.071). It’s also our game with the best results in Graphics, Humour and Mood. Yet, ranking wise, we’ve got past games that did far better in rankings.

Ludum Dare Ratings and Results since Hyper Holomayhem

Our “best game” in ratings is scoring lower in rankings likely for things mentioned before. The quality of good, fun games seem to be on the rise, likely as a result of people participating constantly. And that’s great! That only means that jams are getting better and better! There were also way more participants this time around that there were in any of our previous participants. Such increase is most likely the result of a certain ongoing worldwide unavoidable phenomenon. 😅

Finally, regarding the given ratings, we wanted to be more calm on this jam for a while. That’s why we didn’t rate as much as when we made Jazzy Beats. Because of the good words we received, we felt we needed to give back the good vibes and played a lot more games! A bit too late to catch up, but we still had a blast with your submissions!

For the time being, we’re rearranging some stuff as we get back on the commercial game development track. If you’d like to stay in contact with us, consider following us on Twitter! You’re invited to join us for a chat at our Discord Server as well! We’re preparing some Halloween goodies, so you should really stop by!

Thanks again for all the good will this time around! Wish you all the best of luck on the next Ludum Dare! 🐳

Loop, spin and bark on Woofice Chair!

Come and loop with man’s best friends! Whales and Games introduces you to the magnificent Woofice Chair!

Welcome to Goodboi Park! A dog haven so good that it’ll make the best friend of man bark for the park! In fact, it’s so good that it even attracts the wrong audience. I swear, those body-builders really are a pain in the tail.

But the park is not without its defenders! Hoop, Lupe and Carl are up to the challenge! And since Goodboi Park so happens to be next to an office chair disposal, they’re not without mighty chariots!

So pick a pal, get on the chair, and spin faster than a dog can chase its tail! Throw your very buff enemies for a loop!

Our team had a great time making this game happen. As we always like to do during Ludum Dare season, Woofice Chair! is playable in Windows/Mac/Linux and Web, so you can pretty much play it anyway! Make sure to take it for a spin!

For those of you that participated in Ludum Dare, and would like to leave a comment or rate the game, you can check our game’s page there as well!

If you wanna hang out, chat or share your games, be sure to give our Discord server a visit! Cheers! 🐳
